{"id":259,"date":"2013-06-17T22:14:09","date_gmt":"2013-06-17T22:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mxroo.com\/blog\/?p=259"},"modified":"2013-06-17T22:16:23","modified_gmt":"2013-06-17T22:16:23","slug":"transferring-contacts-to-a-prius-using-only-mac-products","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mxroo.com\/blog\/transferring-contacts-to-a-prius-using-only-mac-products\/","title":{"rendered":"Transferring contacts to a Prius using only Apple products"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have been frustrated for about 7 years by the fact that my prius has a phone book application, but my iPhone cannot connect to it.<br \/>\nI have been searching for several years for a solution. and I finally found one using my MacBook Air.<\/p>\n<p>This worked using a 11-inch, Mid 2011 MacBookAir to connect to a 2005 Prius. I sat inside my car so I didn&#8217;t have to worry about signal degradation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the MacBook:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>In the Address Book application:<\/strong><br \/>\nCreate a contact group of all the contacts you want to copy over to the Prius phonebook.<br \/>\nExport that contact group from address book to a vcf file.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the Prius:<\/strong><br \/>\nTelephone -&gt; Settings -&gt; Bluetooth -&gt; Settings -&gt; Change<br \/>\nChange the bluetooth Passkey to 0000.<br \/>\nTelephone -&gt; Settings -&gt; Bluetooth -&gt; Settings -&gt; Add Phone<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the MacBook:<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>In System Preferences:<\/strong><br \/>\nMake sure Bluetooth is On and Discoverable.<br \/>\nTurn on &#8220;Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the Bluetooth menu bar application:<\/strong><br \/>\nClick &#8220;send file&#8221;.<br \/>\nFind the address book vcf file we created earlier.<br \/>\nIn the window of devices that pop up, look for HANDS FREE, that&#8217;s the Prius.<br \/>\nAttempt to send the file to the Prius.<br \/>\nIt will ask if you want to pair with HANDS FREE, say yes.<br \/>\nThe pairing should succeed, but the sending of the file will fail.<\/p>\n<p>Go back to Bluetooth System preferences.<br \/>\nClick on HANDS FREE in the left sidebar, then click on the gear at the bottom and &#8220;Update Services&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the Prius:<\/strong><br \/>\nTelephone -&gt; Settings -&gt; Transfer Phone Data -&gt; Start Transfer<br \/>\nYou can choose whether to add entries to your phone book, or overwrite the whole book. If this is your first time tranferring contacts it doesn&#8217;t matter which you choose.<br \/>\nOnce the Prius starts listening for a transfer, this should update the description of HANDS FREE in the Bluetooth settings on the Macbook to include the line &#8220;Services OBEX Object Push&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the MacBook:<\/strong><br \/>\nAgain, use the Bluetooth menu bar app to &#8220;send file&#8221; the address book vcf file we created earlier.
